A man accused of a fatal shooting in July in downtown Dubuque this month has pleaded not guilty. 25 year old Deonte Ellison is charged with first-degree murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm in relation to the shooting death of 25 year old Curtis Smothers Jr. near the corner of Loras Boulevard and Bluff Street on July 2nd. Ellison fled the state and was the subject of a 12-day manhunt that ended with his arrest in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
