An eastern Iowa man will serve 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to a charge of vehicular homicide by reckless driving. The sentence for 22-year-old Andy Ahrens was handed down on Friday. Ahrens must pay $150-thousand dollars restitution to the victim’s estate. The charges stem from a 2018 crash on Highway 52 south of Bellevue. According to police, Ahrens’ vehicle left the road and hit a tree – killing his passenger, 20-year-old Alex Behr of Sabula. Officers say that Ahrens’ BAC was 0.21-percent at the time of the crash. As part of Ahrens’ plea deal, a charge of homicide by operating a vehicle under the influence was dismissed.
