More than three dozen counties across Iowa have been approved for a disaster designation by US Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue. The move comes after a request from Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds for a “secretarial disaster designation.” That gives farmers, impacted by the August 10th derecho, access to USDA disaster programs. In total, this designation covers 42 counties – including Dubuque, Delaware, Jones and Jackson Counties. Those counties are eligible for certain assistance programs through the Farm Service Agency – such as emergency loans.
