Near the end of last month, most local government officials believed Governor Tony Evers’ mask mandate would be over, or overturned, by now. That led school boards and city councils to discuss how they’d address face covering orders within their communities. That included the Platteville Common Council, which has chosen not to enact a local order. Council President Barb Daus talked about how split the public is over the issue and what ultimately was the deciding factor for the council on Tuesday night.
“Masks or no masks, we all have our opinion. And it’s pretty obvious that it’s a 50-50 opinion. I’m good with the governor’s mandate, and I don’t believe there’s reason for us to take action – the state has taken action.” – Barb Daus
The council voted to table action on a mask ordinance. They could bring the item back for another vote if council members feel it is necessary.
