A Dubuque man has been sentenced to probation for allegedly starting a fire next to stairs leading to his ex-girlfriend’s residence. 54 year old Timothy Scott pleaded guilty in Iowa District Court of Dubuque County to making arson threats, a felony. The plea to the lesser charge came as part of a plea deal, as Scott originally was charged with first-degree arson. He was sentenced to five years of probation. Scott admitted to starting the fire. A report says that the steps led to the apartment of Susan Breitbach, who had broken up with Scott hours earlier on July 30th.
