Attorneys for a Dubuque man – convicted twice of killing his girlfriend – are asking for a third trial. Fontae Buelow was found guilty of 2nd Degree Murder in the 2017 death of his girlfriend Samantha Link of Peosta. He was sentenced to 50 years in prison, but has maintained she stabbed herself. In their request for a third trial, Buelow’s attorneys argue there was no DNA connecting him to the knife that killed Link. Fingerprints on the knife also matched the location and orientation of how Buelow described that Link had held the knife. They also say the blood found on Buelow is “inconsistent with him being the one wielding a knife.” His defense team argues Buelow did not receive a fair trial earlier this year. They are requesting an acquittal and a new trial.
