No Students Injured When Vehicle Hits School Bus

Dubuque County Authorities say a man was hurt but no students were injured when a vehicle struck the rear of a Dubuque Community School District bus Monday morning. 48 year old Derek Sutherland of Dubuque was taken by ambulance to MercyOne Dubuque Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.  According to the Dubuque County Sheriff’s Department,  Sutherland was driving east on John Deere Road at Charles Lane just before 7am Monday when his vehicle struck the rear of a bus driven by 35 year old Kendra Kruk of Asbury.  Sutherland stated that he did not realize until too late that the bus had stopped in the roadway. Neither Kruk nor three students on the bus were injured. Both Sutherland’s vehicle and the bus had $5,000 worth of damage. Sutherland was cited for following too closely.
