Authorities say a man led officers on a high-speed chase early Wednesday in Dubuque. 64 year old Ronald Ward of Dubuque was arrested on charges of eluding, interference with official acts and warrants charging two counts of fifth-degree theft, two counts of failure to appear and two counts of violation of pretrial supervision. A Dubuque police officer observed Ward traveling 74 mph in a 55-mph zone just after 1am on U.S. Highway 61 near the junction of U.S. Highway 151. Ward led officers to the parking lot of Dubuque Regional Airport. The vehicle stopped but Ward refused to leave his vehicle and drove away, traveling the wrong way on U.S. HIghway 61. Ward’s vehicle traveled at a maximum speed of 71 mph in a 55-mph zone. The Dubuque County Sheriff’s Department employed a tire-deflation device, deflating one of the vehicle’s tires. Ward eventually pulled over on Lake Eleanor Road and was apprehended. Ward also was cited with speeding, no insurance and reckless driving.
