Man Steals His Girlfriend’s Phone, Then Crashes His Vehicle

Dubuque police say an intoxicated man broke into his girlfriend’s home and stole her phone, then drove into a fence, yard and detached garage, fleeing that crash scene before being apprehended. 39 year old Daniel Smith of Dubuque was arrested Saturday shortly before 4am in the area of West 32nd Street and North Grandview Avenue on charges of second-degree burglary and operating while intoxicated. He was also cited with no insurance, driving without a license and failure to maintain control. Damages from the crash totaled over $35,000.
