Two people were injured after a man set off an explosive device in eastern Iowa late Wednesday. Monticello police and a Jones County sheriff’s deputy responded after a woman reported her husband was threatening to blow up a home. The officer and deputy were talking with the man when he ignited a device in the basement, causing an explosion. Investigators say the deputy and man were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Monticello firefighters put out the blaze in the basement – some neighboring homes were evacuated as a precaution. The man was identified as 62-year-old David Costello.
