Authorities say a dryer fire caused $2,500 worth of damage Monday at Lacoma Golf Course in East Dubuque. The East Dubuque and Menominee-Dunleith fire departments responded Monday just after 5:30pm following a report of smoke in a utility closet. Firefighters used a water can to extinguish the fire, and fans cleared smoke from the building. While conducting the investigation, personnel on the scene stated that they had washed and dried towels the evening before and that no one had used the dryer since then. The fire department determined that the towels spontaneously combusted due to chemicals used to clean surfaces and other areas.
