Leaders in the Dubuque Community School District say the installation of more than 200 solar panels on the roof of an elementary school will eventually pay for itself. The initial cost is pegged at about 350-thousand dollars and the district is expected to save about 30-thousand a year. Installation of solar panels and LED lights on another district building two years ago has led to a savings of about 900-dollars a month. Officials say they’ll see how the solar program works at Sageville Elementary before installing the panels on other schools.
