Authorities in Grant County say they’ve checked out some horses that were allegedly being neglected. In a release, Sheriff Nate Dreckman said he noticed a social media post expressing concerns about treatment of the animals. Two deputies – including a trained Humane Officer – were sent to an address on Route 66 near Montfort to investigate. An area vet joined officials to meet with the horse owners and determined the animals were in good health. One pony does need its hooves trimmed. The sheriff’s report also noted multiple people had entered the property without permission, some bringing food for the animals. Officials caution feeding someone else’s animals without knowing what they should eat and how much to feed them. The sheriff’s department reminds concerned citizens to contact their office regarding reports of potentially neglected animals.
