A Delaware County man has pleaded guilty to a federal weapons charge. 43 year old Matthew Welcher of Dundee pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Cedar Rapids, to a charge of being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm. A sentencing hearing will be set after a presentence report has been prepared. Welcher faces up to 10 years in prison, a $250,000 fine and three years of supervised release following his prison term. A release states that Welcher admitted to possessing a Savage Axis 6.5 Creedmoor caliber rifle in May 2021 after having been convicted of two felonies and a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence and while he was subject to a no-contact order.
