The Iowa DNR is encouraging all boaters and anglers to “Clean, Drain, and Dry” their boats to protect lakes and rivers from aquatic hitchhikers. DNR aquatic invasive species program coordinator, Kim Bogenschutz says clean off all plants and mud – plus any zebra muscles you might see on your boat. Also, drain all the water from the wells because there can be plant parts or little zebra muscles in the water. It’s not just a suggestion or a recommendation, it’s the law – you could get a ticket and a 500-dollar fine if you’re caught with vegetation or aquatic invasive species or a 75-dollar fine if your drain plug is in.
