Authorities investigating reports of two explosions in the Peosta area determined that the recreational use of a binary explosive was the cause and that there was no danger to the public. Peosta Police said in an online announcement that they received numerous calls to report two separate explosions around 5:20 p.m. Saturday. The police investigated and determined that the binary explosive Tannerite was used recreationally south of Peosta. Binary explosives consist of two components, neither of which are explosive by themselves. Tannerite is a brand of binary explosive often used for such things as target practice or other events. Therefore, police determined that there was no danger to the public.
