A fire early Tuesday morning caused about $50,000 in damage to a former Dubuque school building, though no injuries were reported. A report says firefighters responded shortly before 4:20 a.m. to a report of a fire at an old Holy Ghost school building on Central Avenue. Dubuque firefighters arrived at the scene and reported smoke coming from the exterior of the building. Initial fire crews reported smoke conditions throughout the structure with fire in the basement. Additional companies arrived on the scene and secured a water supply, deployed a backup hose line to the structure, conducted a search of all floors, assisted with the removal of smoke from the building and conducted salvage and overhaul of the building to limit smoke and fire spread. Crews were able to get the fire under control within 30 minutes.
