Officials in Grant County received a report of a stolen vehicle from Walworth County near Hazel Green on Sunday. A Hazel Green Police Officer located the vehicle traveling south on Percival Street a high rate of speed. The officer attempted to make a traffic stop on the vehicle, but the vehicle failed to stop and increased its speed to 83mph leaving the village. The officer pursued the vehicle westbound on Highway 11 at speeds nearing 100mph. The vehicle crashed into an embankment at the rest area near Highway 11 and Highway 151. The Dubuque Police Department and East Dubuque Police Department responded to the scene and assisted in taking 26 year old Derrick Reynolds of Milwaukee into custody. Reynolds will have charges referred for 3rd offense of Operating While Intoxicated, Fleeing and Eluding an Officer, and Operating a Motor Vehicle without the owner’s consent. The Hazel Green Police Department is working with Walworth County Sheriff’s Office with the investigation. Reynolds is the suspect in several other crimes including two other stolen vehicles on the same day.
