Pope Francis has appointed an Iowa native and a former local priest to be the 11th archbishop of Dubuque. A report says the Most Rev. Thomas Zinkula, currently bishop of Davenport, is scheduled to be installed October 18. A release states that the Most Rev. Richard E. Pates, Bishop Emeritus of Des Moines, has served as apostolic administrator of the archdiocese since April 4 and will continue in that role until Archbishop-elect Zinkula’s installation. Zinkula, who is 66, will replace former Archbishop Michael Jackels, who announced his resignation in April. Zinkula is a native of Mt. Vernon, Iowa.
