Delaware County is under an open-burning ban as of yesterday. The ban was ordered by proclamation of Iowa State Fire Marshal Dan Wood and requested by Delaware County Emergency Management Director Mandy Bieber Tuesday morning. The proclamation states that “conditions in Delaware County are such that open burning constitutes a danger to life or property.” The ban does not include the use of outdoor fireplaces or barbecue grills or the burning of trash in incinerators or trash burners made of metal, concrete, masonry or heavy 1-inch wire mesh, according to the state fire marshal division website. Violation of the ban is a simple misdemeanor under Iowa code.
