Police said a Dubuque man’s fraudulent check-cashing spree resulted in a loss of more than $33,000 for DuTrac Community Credit Union. 25 year old Stephon Sanders of Dubuque was arrested at noon Monday at the Dubuque Law Enforcement Center on a warrant charging first-degree theft and 10 counts of forgery. Reports say that police responded at approximately 11 a.m. Sept. 7 to DuTrac Community Credit Union for a report of fraudulent checks. Investigators learned that Sanders opened an account Aug. 11 at the Walmart branch of the credit union and obtained a debit card. Sanders used the account, making a total of $1,175 in deposits, but removed almost all the funds using his debit card by the end of August.
