A Dubuque man has been sentenced to two years probation for chasing his wife with a machete. 39 year old Hermitt Watak received the sentence in Iowa District Court of Dubuque County after pleading guilty to domestic assault while displaying a dangerous weapon. Iowa District Associate Judge Robert Richter ordered the sentence. A report say that police responded to a residence on Sharon Drive at about 9 p.m. July 2nd for a report of a man on top of a woman while wielding a large knife. Two witnesses reported hearing a woman screaming and seeing a man standing over a woman. One witness called the weapon a machete. Reports say Watak admitted to arguing with his wife but initially denied having a knife. Surveillance video showed Watak had a knife.
