Crimes against both people and property ticked upward last year in Dubuque while still remaining below early pandemic-era highs. According to the Dubuque Police department, the reported number of the most-serious crimes against persons and property in the city increased by roughly 7% in 2023 from the year prior. Most of that increase can be attributed to a marked uptick in thefts and aggravated assaults, which combined to overshadow more moderate decreases in other reported offenses.
