Dubuque County supervisors intend to seek more information before taking any action on recommended pay increases for county employees. The Board of Supervisors previously contracted with Carlson Dettmann Consulting to analyze the competitiveness of the county’s employee compensation. To be competitive in the labor market, the firm determined that Dubuque County should aim to pay staff in the 75th percentile of comparable private and public employers. Supervisors discussed the recommended pay increases during a budget work session this week. A report says Supervisor Wayne Kenniker motioned to approve the plan as presented, but the motion died for lack of a second, with fellow Supervisors Harley Pothoff and Ann McDonough raising concerns about the process that led to the firm’s recommendations.
