Officials from the city of Dubuque on Saturday identified the person who died in a trench collapse at a Dubuque construction site on Friday. 21 year old Jacob Young of Dubuque, was killed in the incident. Assistant Fire Chief David Grass said the Dubuque Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call at 8:22 a.m. for a report of a construction accident on Lake Ridge Drive, where work was underway to construct a new apartment complex. Emergency responders were dispatched and arrived at the scene at 8:29 a.m. A report says firefighters found several people attempting to dig out a coworker who had been buried under approximately 7 to 8 feet of soil in a trench collapse. Glass said fire officials secured the perimeter and immediately began shoring efforts on the trench to allow recovery efforts to begin safely. Young’s body was recovered at 9:46 a.m. Fire crews remained on scene until 11:47 a.m. to secure the site with the help of city of Dubuque Engineering Department staff. The Dubuque Police Department also assisted at the scene.
