As Iowa legislature becomes more hostile to members of the LGBTQ+ Community, two local businesses are doing what they can to make people more comfortable. Ritual Beauty is partnering with New Moon Counseling Alliance to host a gender affirming clothing pop up closet. Abby Bottorff with New Moon counselling Alliance explains why these events are needed,Â
The Gender Affirming Clothing Pop Up Closet is a first of its kind event in Dubuque. The event is on Sunday March 24th from 12 PM to 5 PM at the Smokestack, but the closet will be available all the time during business hours at New Moon Counselling Alliance and Ritual Beauty. Both businesses explained that they are taking steps to ensure confidentiality and safety for those in attendance. Bridget Knasiak of Ritual Beauty says if you don’t feel comfortable attending you can text Ritual Beauty at 563-538-1551 to set up a private meetingÂ
The event will feature custom binder fitting, a resource table, and some make-up tutorials. New Moon Alliance is covering the cost of binders, but if you would like to help someone get the gender affirming items they need, you can donate via Venmo @RitualBeautydbq or participate in the raffle! Also, Ritual Beauty and New Moon are looking for clothing donations to add to the closet, they need harder to find plus sizes and large size feminine shoes, especially sixes 13-14. If you’re able to donate or would like more information call either New Moon Counselling Alliance or Ritual Beauty.Â
