First Jule Electric Bus Coming in December

The city of Dubuque’s first electric Jule bus is set to be delivered in December. City transportation services director Ryan Knuckey made the announcement this week. Knuckey said the transit system is prepared to use a federal grant to purchase two more electric buses in the coming years. He said the $994,000 vehicle has an internal support system to protect batteries in the event of temperature extremes. Knuckey thanked City Council members for approving $35,000 for grant writing in a previous budget. He said that investment led to about $2.6 million in grant funding, including a $2.4 million grant to purchase two more electric vehicles. The funding also will cover the cost of adding charging stations at the bus garage.
