A Dubuque County man has been sentenced to two to five years of probation for assaulting a bouncer at a local bar. 22-year-old Dontae R. Bartmann of Dyersville, recently received the sentence in Iowa District Court of Dubuque County after pleading guilty to one count of willful injury causing bodily injury. If he violates the terms of his probation, Bartmann faces up to five years in prison. Bartmann previously was charged with willful injury causing serious injury but pleaded guilty to the lesser-included charge. Per a plea deal approved by Iowa District Court Judge Monica Zrinyi Ackley, a charge of possession of marijuana was dismissed. As part of his sentence, Bartmann must live in a residential treatment facility for one year or until maximum benefits have been reached. Court documents state that Bartmann was one of two men to assault 21-year-old James E. Finn, a bouncer at Mason Dixon Saloon, on Jan. 14 in the basement of the bar. Finn was transported to a hospital for treatment of a laceration below his right eyebrow and a swollen right eye. Documents state that a second man, identified as22-year-old Elijah J. Boyd of Dubuque, is seen on the footage assisting in the assault. Boyd is charged in Iowa District Court of Dubuque County with willful injury causing serious injury, and his case is ongoing.
