Following requests from community members, the Galena City Council last week approved a location and initial concepts for a pickleball complex and pledged to contribute financially to the project. Council members last week approved an eight-court complex at Recreation Park and committed up to $150,000 in city funding. Citizens have proposed a pickleball complex at Recreation Park at several meetings this spring, and a group of residents presented a concept plan to the council last month. Council documents say that the complex would include eight courts and sit on an approximately 22,000-square-foot space in the park along Field Street. The total cost of the project is estimated at around $327,000.
