A Mazomanie man was injured last week after he allegedly fled a traffic stop on a motorcycle and later crashed. A Richland County Sheriff’s deputy tried to stop a motorcycle along State Highway 60 at around 7:18 p.m. on May 17. The driver, 29-year-old Benjamin Peterson of Mazomanie, allegedly sped away from the stop, heading east. Deputies stopped pursuing him after he allegedly passed a car in a no-passing zone towards oncoming traffic. A short time later, a motorcycle crash was reported along State Highway 60 near County Highway TB. Deputies arrived to find Peterson being given medical care by bystanders. Lone Rock EMS arrived and took him to Gotham and he was taken to a hospital by UW Med Flight. Peterson’s motorcycle was reportedly found several hundred feet in the woods away from the roadway. He faces charges of fleeing/eluding law enforcement, felony bail jumping, operating while intoxicated and second-degree recklessly endangering safety.
