Wildlife experts say a black bear sometimes known as “Google Eye” has been around long enough that they now believe it is an official Dubuque County resident. Dubuque County Conservation Director Brian Preston said that what he believes is the same bear from recent years has been increasingly active in and around small towns north of Dubuque. But he said officials believe that one is no longer the only bear in the county. There were sightings up around Sherrill and Balltown, then there were others in Holy Cross and down by Worthington. Preston thinks there is more than one. Sightings of the bears have picked up in recent years around Memorial Day — which takes place during black bears’ typical breeding season.
