The Dubuque County Sheriff’s Department has issued a reminder about fireworks usage in rural parts of the county. Iowa residents are allowed to purchase and use fireworks from June 1 through July 8. Usage times are from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., with the exception of July 4 and the Saturdays and Sundays immediately preceding and following the holiday, when the usage time is extended one hour, from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. City of Dubuque residents can purchase and possess consumer fireworks within the city limits but cannot use them there. A social media post from Sheriff Joe Kennedy states that his department will only respond to calls “if individuals are using fireworks outside the defined times of use.” Fireworks complaints in cities and towns should be directed to local police departments.
