The Iowa Department of Natural Resources says an eastern Iowa golf course has failed to consistently test its drinking water for bacteria since 2018. DNR records show Rolling Knolls golf course in Dyersville has a well it uses to serve around 120 people. The course is required to sample the water daily for chlorine and send the results to the DNR. Too little chlorine can allow bacteria to grow, and too much can be unhealthy. The DNR says testing reports were not submitted from August 2018 to June 2022, and after that, the course continued missing deadlines. A senior environmental specialist says it’s unclear whether the course’s water has been safe to drink the last six years due to unreliable data. Rolling Knolls has been fined around $7,400 for violations. They are also ordered to submit daily testing results, to show they have a proper chlorine test kit, and to install a well vent.
