Hopes for a Dubuque riverfront campground to reopen for the Labor Day weekend have been dashed after wind damage knocked down power lines in the park. Crews from Alliant Energy are working to restore electricity, and Dubuque city officials still hope to have Miller Riverview Park & Campground ready to open later in September for two months of fall camping before it closes for the winter. The campground on Chaplain Schmitt Island has been closed all summer because of flooding on the Mississippi River. Even after falling river levels in late July and early August allowed other river-oriented businesses and amenities to reopen for a shortened season, the campground remain closed in order for crews to remove numerous tree branches and mud from the area, as well as replanting grass in areas scoured by months spent underwater.
