Persons In Electric Wheelchair Crash Identified

Authorities have identified the two people who were injured Thursday when a vehicle struck an electric wheelchair near Bernard. 69 year old Benny Bennett of Bernard was taken by ambulance to Jackson County Regional Health Center, and 51 year old Jamie Cockrell of Bernard was taken by ambulance to UnityPoint Health-Finley Hospital for treatment of his injuries. According to an Iowa State Patrol report, Bennett was traveling south in the 10000 block of Leisure Lake Road at about 1:15 p.m. Thursday and was attempting to make a right-hand turn when he lost control of the vehicle and struck Cockrell, who was traveling north on the road in an electric wheelchair.
