A film about a pioneer in the Black Arts Movement will be shown next month in Dubuque. “Standing Strong: Elizabeth Catlett” will be shown at 7 p.m. March 20 at Hotel Julien Dubuque. The screening is free. Directed by Kevin J. Kelley, the documentary examines the struggles and triumphs of Catlett, a Mexican-American artist and political activist. Catlett was the first Black woman to receive a Master of Fine Arts from University of Iowa in 1940. The 57-minute film is rated GA. The screening is part of the 2025 Julien Dubuque International Film Festival Winter Film Series.
