Police said a man threatened another with the sharpened end of a broomstick during a disturbance in Dubuque. 19-year-old Adriel M. Wheeless of Dubuque was arrested at 11:13 p.m. Monday at his residence on charges of domestic assault while displaying a weapon, two counts of assault on persons in certain occupations with injury and two counts of assault on persons in certain occupations. Court documents state that Wheeless became agitated during an argument with a man and broke a broomstick in half. Wheeless then took the sharp end of the broom handle, pointed it toward the man, and stated, “I’m gonna put you in your casket and I’m also gonna stab you with it.” A woman at the scene stepped between Wheeless and the man. Two Dubuque Police Department officers received minor injuries when taking Wheeless into custody.
