A new 116-acre recreation area near Cascade is set to become part of the Dubuque County Conservation system, officials announced via social media. The site, known as Locher Recreation Area, includes a 40-foot-deep lake, a two-mile trail loop, a six-acre pond and a half-mile trail loop around the smaller water body, offering opportunities for fishing, hiking and paddling. Recently, reclamation work was completed on the property, which also saw shoreline preparation and seeding, and boundary clean-up with neighboring landowners. The Dubuque County Conservation Board has met with design firms and will soon seek public input on development plans, including trail concepts, fishing piers and water access. In the post, Dubuque County Conservation thanked Twin Rivers Pheasants Forever and the many partners who made the land acquisition possible.
