Iowa transportation officials expect a series of Julien Dubuque Bridge repairs to begin in the spring or summer of next year. A press released issued this week by Iowa Department of Transportation states that the repairs will likely result in a monthlong closure of the entire bridge, followed by an eastbound lane closure of as many as three months’ duration. The project could start sometime between May 25 and July 6, but an exact start date won’t be known until meetings with the contractor. Bridge improvements include bridge and sidewalk approach repairs, deck joint repairs, painting the steel superstructure, sealing the deck, rail repairs and replacing the handrail along the pedestrian crossing. A detour through Wisconsin will be in place during construction.
