A fire at a Dubuque home Monday afternoon displaced five people, though no injuries were reported. Dubuque firefighters responded at about 3 p.m. to a residence on Jackson Street and found heavy smoke coming from the basement, first and second floors of the single-family, rental home. The firefighters encountered heavy fire in the basement, and the blaze spread to the other floors as well. A report says it took firefighters at least an hour to get it under control. Firefighters remained on scene until 6:40 p.m. According to reports, the home is owned by James and Cindy Breiner of Sherrill. The home sustained smoke, water and fire damage. The total damage is estimated at nearly $200,000.
