Two Pedestrians Injured By Vehicle Attempting a U-Turn

Police say two pedestrians were injured when they were struck by a vehicle performing a U-turn Tuesday in downtown Dubuque. 32 year old Mary Zmuda and 38 year old Christopher Zmuda, both of Dubuque, were taken by ambulance to MercyOne Dubuque Medical Center for treatment. According to Dubuque Police, the pair were walking on a sidewalk in the 500 block of Main Street Tuesday when a vehicle driven north by 83 year old Arlene Hanssen of Monticello did a legal U-turn in a designated area of the roadway. Hanssen told authorities that her foot slipped from the brake to the accelerator, causing the vehicle to travel forward and strike the pedestrians and a nearby tree. Hanssen was cited with failure to maintain control of her vehicle.
