A popular tavern in Clayton County was destroyed by a fire Tuesday night. Bootleggers River Tavern, located off of Highway 52 south along the Turkey River was destroyed by a fire that began around 6:30pm Tuesday. A report says the Guttenburg Fire Department along with seven area fire departments battled the blaze before getting it under control around 10pm. The tavern’s owner, Jennifer Glenis and her 12 year old son lived above the tavern. They were able to escape along with their seven pets. Glenis and her father, James Pfaffly, owned Bootleggers River Tavern since June 2018. The tavern was not open at the time of the fire.
