Jackson County authorities plan to conduct a seat belt enforcement campaign following a recent survey of motorists. A report says the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department recently received a grant from the Iowa Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau to conduct a survey of seat belt usage among 100 selected vehicles, according to an online announcement. The survey found that seat belts were used by occupants in 75% of the surveyed vehicles. According to state law, motorists who do not use a seat belt are subject to a fine of $135.50. Following an upcoming seat belt enforcement campaign, authorities will conduct a second survey on compliance.
