A Florida man has been sentenced to 90 days in jail and two years probation for leading a Dubuque County sheriff’s deputy on a high-speed chase earlier this year. 22-year-old Shane Torres of Florida, recently received the sentence in Iowa District Court of Dubuque County after pleading guilty to charges of eluding and operating a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent. Court documents state that a deputy clocked Torres traveling 92 mph in a 65-mph zone east on U.S. 20 near the junction with the Southwest Arterial on Aug. 26. The motorcycle continued traveling east with the deputy in pursuit, reaching a speed of 84 mph in a 45 mph-zone, documents state. The deputy ended the pursuit, and traffic cameras tracked the motorcycle to the area of Wooten and McClain streets, where Torres was apprehended after a brief struggle. The registered owner of the motorcycle told authorities Torres did not have permission to operate it, documents state.
