According to area conservation officials and wildlife rehabilitators, residents are, with increasing regularity, interfering with area wild animals raising their young. Officials said residents often either call in concerns about wild animal babies they assume are orphaned or even resort to removing the animals from where they found them. Dubuque County Conservation Director Brian Preston acknowledged that the concerned residents are generally well-intentioned, but said removing the animals is usually a mistake. many animals tuck their young away in the spring and then come back for them. And he said most of the young animals need things from their parents that they cannot get from humans. unless a person sees that an animal is harmed, they should learn more before removing baby animals. Wisconsinites who are concerned about a possible orphaned animal can call the state’s orphaned-animal hotline at 608-267-0866.
