A panel of Dubuque County jurors on Friday saw several videos depicting the shock and chaos that followed a fatal 2022 shooting as part of an ongoing murder trial against the man accused of pulling the trigger. 32-year-old Keywani D. Evans, of Freeport, Ill., is charged in Iowa District Court of Dubuque County with first-degree murder and first-degree robbery in relation to the fatal 2022 shooting of 20-year-old Taiwon Jackson Jr., of Dubuque. Prosecutors allege that Evans shot Jackson in the head three times on June 4, 2022, in the 1900 block of Central Avenue. Defense attorneys do not deny Evans’ involvement but filed court documents arguing that the shooting was carried out “in defense of others.” Evans’ trial continued Friday with testimony from Dubuque Police Department investigator Kurt Rosenthal and others. Rosenthal testified Friday to the validity of several video clips shown to jurors. The cameras missed the first shot, but Evans is seen on the footage approaching Jackson and firing a handgun two more times at his head. Footage shows Evans then leaning over Jackson and going through Jackson’s pockets before fleeing the scene.
