Fire Started By Child Playing With Lighter

Fire officials say a child playing with a lighter started a residential structure fire Thursday in Dubuque. Firefighters responded at about 3:30 p.m. Thursday to Lori Street after a resident reported smoke coming from his neighbor’s garage. A release states that eight Dubuque Fire Department vehicles and 15 firefighters initially responded to the scene. When firefighters arrived, smoke was coming from the garage, and heavy fire was reported inside the garage. All occupants had left the house safely, including one adult, two children and a dog. There were no injuries. The fire remains under investigation.
