A Dubuque man was sentenced to up to 25 years in prison Monday for first-degree robbery — the final sentencing in connection with the murder of 31 year old Lonnie Burns of Dubuque. 29 year old Terry Valrie was initially also charged with first-degree murder, but that charge was dismissed as part of a plea deal. Burns was found lying on the ground unresponsive in the 700 block of Rhomberg Avenue on Feb. 7, 2023, with several gunshot wounds. He was later pronounced dead. Valrie was at Burns’ residence as part of a group there to rob Burns of drugs and money they believed to be in his home. Also charged in the incident were 25 year old Aaron Johnson, 31 year old Jermaine Bolds, 28 year old Kenneth Reed, and 16 year old Tiarha Godwin. Johnson was determined to have fired the fatal shots. However, Valrie did bring a gun to the scene, which he did not use.
