The filing period is open for certain candidates seeking to run for local seats in Iowa’s 2024 general election. In Dubuque County, non-party political organization candidates and candidates nominated by petition who seek county and township offices can file nomination papers until 5 p.m. Aug. 28. The general election is Nov. 5. Political hopefuls can pick up nomination papers and affidavits of candidacy from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Elections Office on Central Avenue. Open county positions are supervisor, county auditor, county sheriff and county recorder. Nonpartisan positions on the ballot are soil and water commissioners, ag extension council, hospital trustee and Washington Township trustee.
