An Iowa Catholic Conference letter released Tuesday extends the church’s support and compassion for migrants. The letter was signed by four Iowa Catholic leaders, including Archbishop of Dubuque Thomas Zinkula. It assures that as Iowa’s bishops, they will advocate for migrants to be treated with dignity and stand with them “during this stressful time.” It also notes Pope Francis is a strong advocate for migrants and quotes him stating “Migrants and refugees are not pawns on the chessboard of humanity.”
